How to Successfully Sell Your House

Selling your home can be a daunting task. You may be feeling overwhelmed between the staging, tidying and cleaning, but we’re here to help. We’ve compiled our knowledge and expertise of the housing industry into 7 easy tips to successfully sell your home.

  1. The first impression starts outside. Many homeowners get caught up in the home’s interior that the exterior features get neglected. Be mindful of the season you’re selling in. If you’re selling in the summer it’s important to ensure the grass is trimmed, lawn edges are clean, any leaves or debris are removed and the front entrance looks welcoming. Consider adding a few low maintenance plants or welcome signs. A tidy exterior shows potential buyers that you take pride in your home’s curb appeal.
  2. Choose a welcoming fragrance. Upon entering a new home one of the first things that become apparent is the scent. Choose a light, neutral fragrance in your air freshener that is welcoming, not overpowering. A strong scent can sometimes suggest that you have something to hide.
  3. Keep it minimal. Do not over decorate. Potential buyers want to envision their life in your home, not yours. Take down any personal photos off the walls and leave neutral decor pieces that can let their imagination run wild. This includes de-cluttering shelving units, countertops and desks.
  1. Touch Ups. We can sense you cringing as you read this point. But, you need to get those touch-ups done. Spend one afternoon touching up the paint, baseboards, dents and dings around the house. A little elbow grease goes a long way when trying to sell your home.
  2. Don’t cram your closets. There is nothing worse than touring a beautifully tidy home only to open a closet and have a mountain of items fall out. Organize your closet space properly as you tidy your home. Pick up some large storage bins or collapsable organizers and put things away properly. Again, taking pride in your home shows well! Just think how happy you’ll be when your home sells and your things are already organized in bins. Bonus!
  3. Don’t be afraid to stage. Remember the saying “you have to spend money to make money?” The same can apply to selling your home. If you need to update a few decor pieces to make your home flow beautifully – check out consignment or thrift stores first. You may be surprised as to what you find!
  4. Lighting is everything. A well lit, welcoming home is more likely to sell. Utilize the natural light within your home by opening all blinds prior to a showing. Pick up a few lamps to light the dim areas of your home as well.
