Ideas for Building More Curb Appeal into Your Home

Curb appeal reflects an owner’s pride in their home and is the first impression given to the public. Homes with great curb appeal are proven to sell faster and at a higher value than homes that are lacking exterior greatness. Buyers should take as much time selecting exterior details as they do selecting the interior décor.

We’ve added more curb appeal to the modular home pictured above by building it with some interesting dormers, window accents, vertical siding accent and black pillars. A modern slate coloured vinyl siding with a touch of ledgestone accents add an air of sophistication. Once the home arrived on site, we added the front deck with black aluminum railing, black eavestroughing and selected cement parging rather than the typical vinyl skirting found on most modular homes.

Important Considerations When Building Your Home

  • Start at the front door. There are numerous choices with different glass inserts, sidelights and painted or standard white. Money saving tip – choose the standard white door and paint it yourself (just be sure you tape the edges carefully and choose the correct type of paint)!

  • Add dormers. Even if you are restricted by a tight budget, dormers are very difficult to add on to your home after it is built. Dormers and architectural details will truly enhance your home’s value and are best added at the time of construction.
  • Night Vision. Consider your home’s exterior lighting carefully. Electrical work is another tricky thing to do after the home is built. Built-in pot lights, coach lights at the entrances and electrical outlets in the eaves for those Christmas lights are all things that should be considered. Cleverly placed lighting is a cost effective solution to add more curb appeal to your home.

  • Add Accents. There are so many clever ways to use accents to enhance a home’s curb appeal and several accent styles to choose from. Consider ledgestone, shakes, accent boards around windows, pillars and coloured metal fascia to really show off your home.

Our Housing Consultants also happen to be exterior design experts and can assist you with all of these selections. Each of our Sales Centres offers a separate Décor Centre where you can look and touch some of the different samples. We also have the largest show home parades, at both our Sales Centres, where buyers can view the different exterior options in use on an actual house.
